Vedansh

Vedansh

Vedansh was a Thranish wizard.

History[]

Vedansh studied in the libraries of Andros for many decades, became recognized as a master wizard and was eventually appointed to the position of Grand Enchanter. He had a great deal of influence in Thrane, and earned the respect Darcassen Voss although Empress Kaori took an immediate dislike to him upon their meeting. He taught many younger mages, however unknown to most he also used his powers of enchantment to turn some of his students and associates (Darevor, Selemon and Kasimir, for example) into thralls. Vedansh eventually took his chance to seize control of Darcassen Voss, and then arranged an assassination attempt on Kaori. This was unsuccessful, but Kaori was fled Thrane and Vedansh (using Darcassen Voss as his puppet) effectively became the Emperor.

Description[]

Vedansh was a venerable Thranish wizard. He was short and stooped, with a bald head but a full white beard and bushy eyebrows. He is particularly skilled with illusions and enchantments. He ws intelligent and resourceful, but he is also a sadistic maniac. He compulsively deceived and manipulated those around him in order to gain control over them, avoiding any form of voluntary engagement if at all possible. Unfortunately this manifested in truly horrifying ways due to his significant proficiency with enchantment magic, as he was able to covertly mentally enslave those around him.

In the Campaign[]

Vedansh met with Vantis and Lannus when they returned from Charn. During this time Thranish assassins broke into Lannus' chamber and stole a decoy vessel. Vedansh travelled to Ramandu's Rock when he heard of the death of Maharion. He later visited Charn and recovered the body of Samon Yazid, extracting a wealth of secrets concerning necromancy and eventually transforming him into the Rod of the Godking. Vedansh then (through Darcassen Voss) negotiated some agreements with Vantis and Lannus concerning support for the Corhyrians against the Howlers and a council to discuss the third Charn Vessel. Vedansh's covert control of the Thranish Empire was eventually taken from him by Zarx, who had been released from the dungeons by Osha'ir and given the Rod of Dominion. Using this terrible item, Zarx imprisoned Vedansh's mind within the jewel of the rod and seized control of Vedansh and all his thralls. Vantis, Lannus and Rexxar later fought and defeated Vedansh (with Zarx, the Butcher of Orath, Darcassen Voss and Ulgulak Kingshame) and then brought him back to Daln to be judged by Kaori and Lorenzo Garazzi. Kaori sentenced him to death and cut his throat.
